2018 Teach it Forward Member Retreat
October 12th – 14th, Club Med Sandpiper Bay
Our Teach-It-Forward member retreat is one of the highlights of our SFJAG year. It’s a chance for members to get together in a lovely, relaxing setting at an all-inclusive resort, and share their skills and knowledge with each other. This year’s retreat will be held at Club Med’s Sandpiper Bay resort in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
Club Med is an all-inclusive resort. The retreat price includes everything – food, drink, room, and great classes with fellow members. Guests are welcome, and you can extend your stay if you like – just let us know so we can notify the resort and check pricing for the extra nights. Club Med is a lovely vacation spot, 2 hours from Miami on the St. Lucie River.
Price: Only $350 double occupancy, $420 for single

By popular demand, we’re bringing back the Brown Bag Raffle
We are asking each member to bring a jewelry-related item – something you’ve made would be very special – valued at $20 or more for the raffle. The guild will have brown paper bags at registration for each member to hold the contributions. Participation is voluntary; at the party, each member will bring their bag and receive a raffle ticket in exchange. Throughout the evening, tickets will be drawn, and – just like our birthday raffle – the winner can choose one of the gifts. You’re free to exchange gifts with other members if you like. The raffle will be held on Saturday evening, after the cocktail party
After our cocktail party, our space will be open for socializing, working on projects, or gaming – Last year, everyone really enjoyed game night. If you have a favorite game, bring it to share. We’ll have a selection of other games on hand (or you can bring or invent your own). For those who attended last year, Club Med’s shows are part of the package, so feel free to grab a table in one of their venues, attend a show, or just hang by the pool and enjoy the facilities.
Retreat Projects – We Need Teachers
Do you have a cool project or technique that you’d like to share with fellow members? Our annual retreat is a great way to do that! It’s a lovely, no-pressure environment to share your knowledge and skills with others. If you’ve been thinking about teaching but haven’t been sure about making the move, this is a great way to experiment. Wild Idea? Off-beat project idea? New twist on an old technique? Our classes are generally 1/2 day (about 3 hours), so short projects are best. Your idea does not have to be a finished piece – it can be a technique or series of techniques that lead to a finished piece or simply for skills development. What is the annual retreat?
Each year, guild members volunteer to “teach-it-forward,” sharing our knowledge in a variety of jewelry-making disciplines with each other. In past years, topics have included beadweaving, kumihimo, metalwork, tassel making, polymer clay, wirework, resin, enameling, and much, much more. All the classes are free. All you pay for are the accommodations – which are all inclusive! Its a really good deal!
This year, we are offering the option to pay in full at time of registration, or to split the payments into two equal amounts. If you elect to split your payments, the balance will be due by August 15th, 2018. Registration fees for this year’s retreat are:
- $420 for single occupancy / $210 deposit if you elect to split the payment
- $350 for double occupancy (per person) / $175 deposit if you elect to split the payment
- $350 for a non-participating guest / $175 deposit if you elect to split the payment
(The rate for a guest is the same as regular double occupancy, since there is no fee for the classes.)
Roommate Policy: If you have a roommate, you will be asked to provide that person’s name when you register. Please make sure that when your roommate registers, they include your name. We allocate the double-occupancy rooms based on this match. You will also have the option to request the assignment of a roommate, but we cannot guarantee that one will be available. If you opt for us to find a roommate, and we are not able to do so, you will have the option to upgrade to a single occupancy room, if one is available, or to cancel your registration. Either action must be taken before August 15th.
If you are bringing a non-participating guest, you will be responsible for the total fee (or deposit) at the time of registration. Non-participating guests will not be able to register independently.
Extending your stay: If you would like to arrive early or stay longer than the retreat dates, the additional days must be booked through SFJAG. Please note in the from arrival/departure dates and we will request pricing and availability for the room. We cannot guarantee that the rates for an extended stay will be the same as the rates for our group. We will provide pricing for the extended dates prior to the event, and you will have the option to accept or forgo the extended stay without jeopardizing your retreat dates.
Cancellation Policy: You can cancel up to July 12th, and received a full refund, less a $25.00 processing fee. If you cancel after July 12th, but before August 25th, your deposit is forfeit. There are no refunds or cancellations after August 25th, but you can transfer your reservation to another party. If you elect an extended stay (arriving early or staying longer), Club Med’s cancellation policy will apply to the extended dates of your stay.
